Rotation at 1122 Hz and the neutron star structure
Aims. Recent observations of XTE J1739-285 suggest that it contains a neutron star rotating at 1122 Hz. Such rotation imposes bounds on the structure of neutron star in XTE J1739-285. These bounds may be used to constrain poorly known equation of state of dense matter at > ∼ 10 15 g cm −3. Methods. One-parameter families of stationary configurations rotating rigidly at 1122 Hz are constructed, ...
متن کاملDiscovery of 1122 Hz X-ray Burst Oscillations from the Neutron-star X-ray Transient Xte J1739-285
We report the discovery of oscillations at 1122 ± 0.3 Hz in an X-ray burst from the X-ray transient XTE J1739-285. The signal has a peak Leahy power of 42.8 and, after consideration of the number of trials, has a chance probability of occurrence of 4×10 −5 , equivalent to a 4.2σ detection. The oscillation frequency suggests that XTE J1739-285 contains the fastest rotating neutron star yet found...
متن کاملNeutron Star Structure
A review of properties of matter in the interior of neutron stars is given. Particular attention is paid to recent many-body theory calculations of the properties of dense matter. Among topics discussed are the strong increase of tensor correlations at relatively low densities, the “relativistic boost term” in the interaction, and the sensitivity of properties of neutron star models to three-bo...
متن کاملNeutron star structure and the neutron radius of 208Pb.
We study relationships between the neutron-rich skin of a heavy nucleus and the properties of neutron-star crusts. Relativistic effective field theories with a thicker neutron skin in 208Pb have a larger electron fraction and a lower liquid-to-solid transition density for neutron-rich matter. These properties are determined by the density dependence of the symmetry energy which we vary by addin...
متن کاملProto-neutron Star Winds with Magnetic Fields and Rotation
We solve the one-dimensional neutrino-heated non-relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) wind problem for conditions that range from slowly rotating (spin period P & 10 ms) protoneutron stars (PNSs) with surface field strengths typical of radio pulsars (B . 1013 G), to "proto-magnetars" with B ≈ 1014 − 1015 G in their hypothesized rapidly rotating initial states (P ≈ 1 ms). We use the relativist...
